The nurse can't be in the patient room watching them all the time. The current digital influence allows us to monitor and learn about care minute to minute. Even when they go home. This will be a huge impact in the future.

In the 1970s patients were relatively healthy with most having only one disease with one or two treatments available. In the 2020s we have transitioned to a time where people are living longer with multiple comorbidities and there are tons of treatments available. The question is how are doctors choosing? What happens if they don't have good information? We have challenges of sharing data, challenges of interoperability, challenges of accuracy. We can see where the industry needs to improve but this is a long-term commitment that will take decades.

There’s a law that says if you are a Medicare recipient, to get telehealth you have to be in a health profession shortage area. It’s a very 1990s view of telehealth but it's the law. It's being ignored now because the law got thrown out during the public health emergency. But unless we change it, we will have a very strong downward draft on enthusiasm around telehealth because as you know, when Medicare goes, so does the rest of the payer community.
