UC Health Nurses Leveraging AI Technologies to Go "Back to Bedside"

April 24, 2025

Nurses at the University of California Health are looking to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their workflows to enhance patient care and reduce administrative burdens. Emergency room nurse Maranda Bradshaw highlights how AI can alleviate cognitive fatigue by breaking down complex procedures into simpler steps, allowing nurses to concentrate on patient care. With nurses currently spending around 132 minutes on documentation during their shifts, AI tools are expected to streamline this process by anticipating documentation needs, thus providing more time for patient interaction. Additionally, nurses are actively involved in evaluating AI technologies to ensure they are practical and enhance clinical judgment and decision-making.

April 24, 2025

Jeffrey Bowie, CEO of a cybersecurity firm in Edmond, Oklahoma, was arrested for allegedly installing malware on a restricted computer at SSM Health’s St. Anthony Hospital. The incident, which occurred in August 2024, was discovered when a staff member spotted Bowie using a computer meant for employees only. An investigation revealed he accessed multiple computers and installed malware that captured screenshots to send to an external address. Fortunately, hospital staff detected the unauthorized access in real-time, preventing any data breach. Bowie now faces two counts under the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
