Speaker 00:00:03 Today in health, it we're just going to have a talk. Speaker 00:00:05 My name is bill Russell. Speaker 00:00:06 I'm a former CIO for a 16 hospital system. Speaker 00:00:08 And creator this week in health, it a channel dedicated to keeping Speaker 00:00:12 health it staff current and engaged. Speaker 00:00:14 No sponsor message for today. Speaker 00:00:16 Just want to make you aware that I'm going to be traveling for the next three weeks. Speaker 00:00:20 I'm going to be going. Speaker 00:00:21 To the health conference or H L T H. Speaker 00:00:24 However you want to say it, I will continue to call it the health conference. Speaker 00:00:28 , I, then it go to a board meeting. Speaker 00:00:30 I followed up with chime. Speaker 00:00:31 I then go to an event that I'm helping to moderate for one of Speaker 00:00:36 my sponsors that is offsite. Speaker 00:00:38 So I'm going to be really moving around for the next three weeks. Speaker 00:00:41 Should be interesting. Speaker 00:00:42 I'll have a lot to talk about. Speaker 00:00:44 I just want to make you aware of that because next week. Speaker 00:00:47 Since I'm going to be at the health conference. Speaker 00:00:48 I don't know how many of these I'm going to be able to put out. Speaker 00:00:51 I will be doing some interviews while I'm there and if I can, I will produce them. Speaker 00:00:54 I will put them out on the today's show, but don't be surprised if Speaker 00:00:57 I miss one or two days next week. Speaker 00:01:00 Given the travel schedule. Speaker 00:01:02 Other things I wanted to talk about had an interesting conversation this week. Speaker 00:01:06 We did a webinar just this past week. Speaker 00:01:08 And we decided to put that webinar up on our website, but we only wanted that Speaker 00:01:12 available to people who registered. Speaker 00:01:15 And it created an interesting conversation between me and my team. Speaker 00:01:18 And. Speaker 00:01:18 It took me back to when I was a CIO, having the same Speaker 00:01:21 conversations with physicians. Speaker 00:01:23 And it was the conversation of how much security is too Speaker 00:01:26 much and how much usability is the right amount of usability. Speaker 00:01:32 So we decided to go with a form of two factor authentication. Speaker 00:01:34 You essentially put your user ID and password in. Speaker 00:01:36 It sends you an email and you get a code. Speaker 00:01:38 You then put your code in and you get to see the webinar. Speaker 00:01:42 That's if you've registered. Speaker 00:01:44 And the workflow works. Speaker 00:01:45 It works pretty well, but the team came back to me and said, Hey, there's Speaker 00:01:48 too much friction in this process. Speaker 00:01:50 And people aren't going to go through that level of security to view the webinar. Speaker 00:01:55 And I was reminded of the many times I sat in front of physicians and Speaker 00:01:58 they said, you got to make it easier. Speaker 00:01:59 You've got to make it easier. Speaker 00:02:01 And that's the age old. Speaker 00:02:02 Balance. Speaker 00:02:03 I'm not really talking about this to give you an answer on what you should do. Speaker 00:02:07 We decided to go on the security route. Speaker 00:02:09 Because I'm working in healthcare and the state of things right Speaker 00:02:13 now around cybersecurity. Speaker 00:02:15 Is really a heightened state of security. Speaker 00:02:17 So I decided to head in that direction and not head in the direction of making it. Speaker 00:02:21 More easy. Speaker 00:02:22 I don't know. Speaker 00:02:23 I might lose viewers of that webinar, which would be a shame. Speaker 00:02:26 Far and away, one of the best webinars I've ever been a part of or seen. Speaker 00:02:31 Quite frankly, I thought it was fantastic. Speaker 00:02:33 The team was very vulnerable, shared a lot of great stuff, and there's a lot of Speaker 00:02:37 good things out there for health systems. Speaker 00:02:39 If you want to see it, it's on our homepage. Speaker 00:02:40 Click on the webinar. Speaker 00:02:41 Go ahead and register and then go through the login process. Speaker 00:02:44 You tell me if there's too much friction. Speaker 00:02:47 In the process. Speaker 00:02:49 Alright, also wanted to touch on this. Speaker 00:02:51 Hit a LinkedIn today. Speaker 00:02:53 And Scott Becker had a really cool actually, I guess two days old. Speaker 00:02:57 It's been a while, since I've been out there and he has 11 issues that are Speaker 00:03:01 top of mind for healthcare leaders, and he's preparing for a talk with Speaker 00:03:04 healthcare graduate students, and he worked up this list and here you go. Speaker 00:03:09 Number one, healthcare workforce shortages at most. Speaker 00:03:12 All levels plus morale and traveling staff and more. Speaker 00:03:16 Is a, the number one issue, I would say the number one issue is labor. Speaker 00:03:20 You have the. Speaker 00:03:21 Strike that's going on at Kaiser or getting ready to go on at Speaker 00:03:24 Kaiser in California and Oregon. Speaker 00:03:27 I think, which is indicative of the stress that healthcare workers have Speaker 00:03:31 been under for a very long time. Speaker 00:03:33 And they are looking for recognition of that. Speaker 00:03:35 They're looking for the staff shortages to be addressed. Speaker 00:03:39 There's just a lot of things around, around staff and labor. Speaker 00:03:42 I think that are all wrapped up in that number one issue. Speaker 00:03:46 Number two, trying to find a new business normal for many perspectives. Speaker 00:03:50 In the face of constant change and disruption, I think that's true. Speaker 00:03:53 I think people are trying to get their footing again and Speaker 00:03:56 figure out where we're at. Speaker 00:03:57 I, it felt like we were getting there, but maybe that is not the case since Speaker 00:04:01 he's getting indications, that is still the case from healthcare leaders. Speaker 00:04:05 Number three, moving away from such heavy reliance on the top four or five Speaker 00:04:08 revenue generating specialties and more towards value based care and models. Speaker 00:04:14 I think people talk about value based care. Speaker 00:04:15 But they're not pursuing it as quickly as they should because they can't Speaker 00:04:19 figure out the financials around it. Speaker 00:04:21 And so I think they are pursuing not value-based care per se. Speaker 00:04:25 I think they're pursuing partnerships where they can be. Speaker 00:04:30 Payers and providers where they can start to get skin in the game on both sides. Speaker 00:04:34 And that is the model that they're pursuing. Speaker 00:04:37 If that be the definition of value-based care, then so be it. Speaker 00:04:40 Number four COVID-19 and taking care of COVID-19 patients and staff Speaker 00:04:44 obviously is up there in vaccinations and staff and community issues. Speaker 00:04:48 Rounds out the top five, and then he has a bunch of other things. Speaker 00:04:50 I think once you get past the top five, you're talking about things Speaker 00:04:53 that are on the list that get talked about, but maybe aren't. Speaker 00:04:57 Getting any traction or getting done? Speaker 00:05:00 The thing from a health it perspective, I found interesting is that again, Speaker 00:05:04 these are issues top of mind for healthcare leaders in cybersecurity. Speaker 00:05:07 Isn't in the top five. Speaker 00:05:08 I find that hard to believe. Speaker 00:05:10 That given what happened at scripts given what's happening across the Speaker 00:05:15 landscape, that cybersecurity isn't in the top five, given that at the JP Speaker 00:05:21 Morgan conference, a whole bunch of the CEOs got up and said, cybersecurity Speaker 00:05:25 is one of their top priorities. Speaker 00:05:26 So clearly somehow between then and now. Speaker 00:05:29 Or at least the people that Scott's talking to. Speaker 00:05:32 That list. Speaker 00:05:33 It has gotten way down the list on that. Speaker 00:05:36 In fact, the only thing from a technology perspective, number six, digital Speaker 00:05:41 adoption and experience are trying to make big leaps forward in digital and Speaker 00:05:45 technology and patient experience. Speaker 00:05:47 So health systems are trying to make that leap. Speaker 00:05:50 . I think also if I were looking at a technology list, You would Speaker 00:05:53 have to put something on there with regard to a hospital at Speaker 00:05:57 home, a remote patient monitoring. Speaker 00:05:59 You'd have to put something on there with regard to analytics, advanced Speaker 00:06:02 analytics things like clinical decision support, integrating AI, Speaker 00:06:05 those kinds of stuff I would think would have to be on that list as well. Speaker 00:06:10 Again, as I told you, this was going to be a hodgepodge. Speaker 00:06:12 Why don't you let you know, I would be traveling and these shows are Speaker 00:06:15 going to be a little less consistent. Speaker 00:06:17 If you will, you might get more of these talks, like what I'm hearing at Speaker 00:06:20 the health conference and what I heard. Speaker 00:06:22 From various speakers. Speaker 00:06:23 I might grab some people do short interviews and post those up there. Speaker 00:06:27 I'm not sure really what I'm going to do next week. Speaker 00:06:30 While I am traveling, but wanted Encourage you to check back because Speaker 00:06:33 I don't know what I would be doing. Speaker 00:06:34 And I dunno, you might like it more. Speaker 00:06:36 You might tell me, Hey, head more in this direction. Speaker 00:06:39 We'll see. Speaker 00:06:40 That's the nature of the show. Speaker 00:06:41 We've been trying things out. Speaker 00:06:42 On our various channels and our different formats for awhile now, Speaker 00:06:45 and going into next year, we're going to have five different shows, Speaker 00:06:48 five different shows based on feedback that we've gotten from you.
