Summary
Research on the link between diabetes and COVID-19 reveals individuals with diabetes are more likely to experience severe COVID-19 symptoms, while COVID-19 may lead to new onset diabetes. Long COVID, persistent symptoms after recovery, may be more common in diabetic patients. Diabetes medication may reduce likelihood of long COVID. Microvascular affects of COVID-19 could worsen diabetes complications. COVID-19 severity intensifies post-infection diabetes risk, but vaccination lowers it. Regular screening for diabetes in post-COVID-19 patients recommended. Further research needed to determine long-term effects on global diabetic population.
