Vanderbilt Medical Center Upgrades to Windows 11 Ahead of Deadline

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) began its upgrade to Windows 11 in April 2022 as part of its digital transformation strategy aimed at modernizing its IT infrastructure and reducing reliance on Windows 10 before its end-of-support deadline. By September 2024, VUMC upgraded 99% of its clinical workstations and 92% of administrative devices, opting for new devices with Windows 11 pre-installed and implementing automated updates. The migration process involved collaboration among IT, cybersecurity, and health IT teams to ensure application compatibility, thereby minimizing additional costs associated with extended support for the obsolete operating system.
