In an op-ed, Witty addressed the frustrations surrounding claim denials and prior authorization processes, acknowledging the complexities of the healthcare system as outdated and flawed. To counter misinformation, UnitedHealth stated that around 90% of medical claims are approved initially and that the small percentage requiring further review is not predominantly due to clinical reasons.
