UCI Health Irvine Unveils Nations First All-Electric Hospital

UCI Health is preparing to launch the nation’s first all-electric acute care hospital, UCI Health – Irvine, in December, with a focus on sustainability and patient comfort. This 144-bed facility will operate entirely on electricity generated onsite or from renewable sources, aiming to minimize carbon emissions associated with healthcare, which currently contribute 8.5% to total emissions. The hospital’s design incorporates advanced technology along with natural elements, including solar panels and recycled water systems, reflecting a shift toward more ecologically responsible healthcare models.
