US federal regulators are reviving the dormant HIPAA compliance audit program, last used in 2017, to strengthen healthcare sector cybersecurity. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will initiate audits later in the year and evaluate compliance with potential HIPAA security rule changes. A 39-question online survey involving past HIPAA auditees will assess the past audits' effectiveness and the entities' post-audit compliance actions.
