Sanford Health has added a new feature to its MyChart patient portal that enables users to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors directly within the platform. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Epic and Donate Life America, aims to simplify the registration process for potential donors and ensures that their donor status is securely stored in the National Donate Life Registry. The streamlined process utilizes existing patient information while keeping donation decisions confidential. Healthcare leaders, such as LifeSource CEO Kelly White, have expressed that this enhancement could ease the decision-making burden for families, especially given the pressing needs of over 100,000 individuals awaiting transplants in the U.S.
