Researchers are developing an AI tool called FaceAge, which uses facial images to determine patients' biological age and predict survival outcomes, aiming to aid clinical decision-making. Tested on more than 58,000 images, FaceAge has outperformed traditional clinician assessments in predicting short-term life expectancy, suggesting that visual data can enhance diagnostic accuracy. The findings, to be published in Nature, indicate that cancer patients often appear biologically older, which correlates with diminished survival rates. This advancement in AI-driven assessments could significantly improve treatment planning and patient care in oncology and beyond.
