Micky Tripathi, head of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), discussed a new rule requiring AI transparency in healthcare, during an interview at the Reuters Digital Health conference. The rule mandates AI developers to share detailed information about their products, including development funding, data sources, bias prevention measures, validation methods, and intended use cases. This transparency aims to increase AI adoption by alleviating clinicians' concerns about reliability and providing a mechanism for higher quality AI tools. The rule also applies to non-clinical AI tools and will take effect in early 2025, offering healthcare providers more insight into the AI tools they use.
