Microsoft has announced significant alterations to its AI product, Recall, following severe criticism from security researchers. Recall, initially touted by CEO Satya Nadella as a "photographic memory" for users' screen activities, was found to store data, including sensitive information, in plain text, which was easily exploitable. In response, Microsoft has decided to make Recall opt-in by default, require biometric enrollment, and enhance encryption protocols. This move aligns with Microsoft's renewed commitment to prioritize security after facing high-profile breaches by state-aligned hackers and internal criticism for previously undervaluing security measures.
