Scott Gottlieb, former FDA commissioner and current partner at New Enterprise Associates, advocates for the integration of large language models (LLMs) into clinical workflows, citing their strong performance on U.S. Medical Licensing Examination questions. In a recent discussion, he highlighted the impressive accuracy of ChatGPT-4o, which scored 98%, well above the passing mark. However, he noted that the lack of HIPAA-compliant tools within health systems is hindering adoption among physicians. Gottlieb emphasized the need for health systems to either develop or adapt existing models for local health data to enhance diagnostic capabilities while ensuring patient privacy, acknowledging the significant resources required for this process.
