In July 2023, a 14-year-old boy named Sam Lane, diagnosed with rare cancer, helped create a Lego MRI scanner set at Boston Children’s Hospital to assist other pediatric patients in understanding the MRI process. More than one million children have utilized these interactive Lego sets, which have proven effective in reducing anxiety related to medical procedures, with 96% of healthcare professionals endorsing their impact. Child life specialists highlight the importance of play in alleviating children's fears and potentially lowering sedation rates, as seen in 46% of cases after using the set. Not commercially sold, these models have been donated to over 10,000 hospitals worldwide, showcasing a significant integration of playful learning into pediatric care strategies.
