Houston Methodist is testing generative AI to simplify the creation of end-of-shift nursing reports, allowing nurses to allocate more time to patient care. The AI generates summaries of care interventions based on electronic health records, improving documentation efficiency while enabling customization for individual patient needs. Early feedback from staff is positive, citing a notable decrease in documentation time, with around 600 notes generated weekly, over 90% of which are used in clinical documentation. However, there is potential for the AI system to be enhanced by incorporating more patient data to improve summaries in complex cases.
