Digital devices can help clinicians prescribe physical activity

Physical inactivity is a major public health concern, contributing to numerous health issues. Despite strong evidence supporting the benefits of physical activity (PA) and existing guidelines, only a small percentage of clinicians currently discuss PA with at-risk patients. Digital devices, such as smartwatches and fitness trackers, offer a promising solution by providing objective data on physical activity. These tools can facilitate better communication between patients and healthcare providers, enabling more effective activity prescriptions. Efforts are underway to standardize digital PA metrics and integrate them into healthcare systems to improve patient outcomes and promote PA as a key component of medical care.
