Ascension restores EHR in 1st market after cyberattack

Ascension, a St. Louis-based health system with 140 hospitals, has restored access to its electronic health records (EHR) in its first market following a May 8 ransomware attack. While the system continues to rely heavily on paper records and manual processes, efforts to reinstate IT systems are ongoing. An Ascension spokesperson emphasized that restoring EHR access has been a top priority, and work is underway to extend access across their network. The attack has affected operations in multiple states, resulting in ambulance diversions, longer wait times, and delays in diagnostic services.
