Kent Hoyos is the Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC), a 453-bed acute care, not-for-profit teaching hospital serving Eastern Los Angeles and Western San Bernardino counties. PVHMC is recognized for its exceptional medical care and efficient use of resources, earning numerous national designations, along with state and regional recognition.
Kent has direct responsibility for overseeing the Information Technology (IT) and Health Information Management (HIM) functions at PVHMC. These departments consist of a highly productive team, with 75 IT staff members and 60 HIM/Coding staff members, supported by an annual budget exceeding $18 million. Kent is an expert in managing complex enterprise strategies and building high-performing teams. With a strong finance background, he has been deeply involved in developing PVHMC's overall enterprise budget and has extensive experience in data analysis. His excellent interpersonal skills enable him to effectively collaborate with all levels of the PVHMC team, as well as the physician community.
Appointed to lead PVHMC into the digital age in May 2000, Kent was promoted to Chief Information Officer in 2005. Among his major accomplishments are developing and implementing a long-range vision for the hospital and successfully bringing that vision to life. This has included centralizing the IT function, growing an efficient and effective IT team, building a robust technology infrastructure, implementing a fully functioning Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, and executing numerous other enterprise-wide application installations. Under Kent’s leadership, PVHMC attested for Meaningful Use in 2013 and continues to work towards advancing through subsequent stages of the Meaningful Use program.
