Summary
Mass General Brigham is expanding its Home Hospital services to provide acute care for oncology patients, in line with the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute’s goal of improving access to high-quality care. This initiative addresses the capacity challenges faced by traditional hospitals and reduces "time toxicity" for patients, enabling them to receive oral cancer medications at home while managing other medical conditions. Specially trained Home Hospital clinicians will work alongside the Cancer Institute team to ensure coordinated care, prioritizing patient comfort and safety by minimizing hospital visits. The program, which is one of the largest of its kind in the U.S., currently serves 72 communities in the Greater Boston area and now includes services such as managing enteral nutrition and implanted ports.
