Summary
In response to the 2024 ransomware attack on Change Healthcare that affected claims and prescription processing for millions, healthcare leaders are collaborating to strengthen cybersecurity across the sector. The Health Sector Coordinating Council Cybersecurity Working Group is identifying vulnerabilities that could be exploited by hackers and mapping critical healthcare functions to assess risks associated with third-party vendors. The group is working on strategies, including requiring minimum cybersecurity standards for vendors, to enhance incident response capabilities and develop backup plans, ultimately aiming to reduce the cybersecurity risks faced by healthcare organizations.
